Institute of Sport Basketball Academy Now Open for 2027

Living Waters Lutheran College’s Institute of Sport Basketball Academy is a structured entry point into a proven pathway, not just an extra-curricular offering.

Applications are now open for students entering Years 5 to 6 and Years 8 to 12 in 2027.

Please note, trials and applications are now closed for students entering Year 7 in 2027.

Attend the Selection Process Trial on Tuesday 4 August or Thursday 6 August.

What does the Basketball Academy offer?

Delivered within the school day, it combines expert coaching, purposeful competition and personal development at the right stage of a young athlete’s growth.

There is an application and trial process for all Basketball programs.

Students who are selected into the Basketball Academy will receive two Basketball theory and practical lessons per week to develop their skills, techniques, tactics and decision making specifically for basketball. Players will be representing Living Waters Lutheran College at interschool, Mandurah and Rockingham Kwinana Associated Schools (MARKAS) and independent college competitions (such as ACC), preparing them to be nominated to trial for the Western Australian Basketball League (WABL). Scholarships are available for this program.

How does the selection process work?

An invitation to trial will be provided once the application has been assessed.
Students will attend the appropriate trial time for their group.
If the student is accepted into the Program, a student contract will need to be filled out and sent back before the end of Term 3.

Once an application has been submitted, the Basketball Coordinator will be in contact regarding the assessment process.

All applicants are assessed through game play and are evaluated on natural athletic ability, coachability and attitude. Work ethic, behaviour and aptitude are also considered. Applicants are compared against each other and the appropriate skill and fitness standards. School reports or references, as well as coaching references, may also be taken into account.

If my child is not accepted, can he/she try again?

Yes. Students are welcome to trial again the following year. Some students are successful on a second attempt, while others may not be.

If your child is injured or unwell on the trial day, the Basketball Coordinator must be notified on or before the trial date. An alternative trial date will then be arranged.

What is the out-of-school commitment expected of my child?

Students will be required to attend one-hour before-school training sessions, although rotations may occur depending on carnival and competition preparation. Carnivals and competitions will take place after school, meaning the student may need to make themselves available for these. Some competitions may also run during school holidays, depending on coach and athlete availability.

Do you accept late applications?

Late applications are only accepted in exceptional circumstances and must be approved in consultation with the Basketball Coordinator.

Can I return my application in person as a hard copy?

No. All applications must be submitted through the online application process via the Basketball page on the Living Waters Lutheran College website.
