Pedal Prix 2007
Every year students from our Middle School, Senior School and Halls Head Campus are involved in an event called Pedal Prix. It takes place in Murray Bridge, South Australia in September and is a 24-hour human powered vehicle (HPV) endurance race, involving over 200 teams from all over Australia. 2007 is Living Water's eighth year in the competition.

The College sent three teams in 2007. The year 7 girls and boys team riding "Nitro", the U/16 girls riding "Adrenalin" and the U/16 boys riding "Scope".

Grilling try-outs took place back in term 1 and teams were selected. Since then, students have spent time building up their stamina on their bikes at home as well as training once a week as a team. They have participated in a ride up the freeway from Baldivis to Perth as well as an all night Bike-a-thon to help prepare them for the race. In term 3 things heated up a bit with 2-3 training sessions a week.

Mr Suggate, Liam and Sam worked tirelessly to make sure the 3 bikes were up to the strict guidelines set out by the race coordinators. Luckily this year they only had to 'refine' last year's bikes instead of having to build them from scratch.

Raising much needed funds is also a big part of the Pedal Prix year. So far we have received sponsorships from businesses, sold many boxes of chocolates, hosted a quiz night and auction and raised sponsorship for the 40km ride to Perth.

The teams officially left on Tuesday the 11th of September and finally arrived in Murray Bridge early Thursday morning. Everyone was tired from the long bus trip but had a ball. They managed to fit in a bit of sight-seeing before settling down to rest up for the big race on Saturday. Everything went well over the 24 hour race with all 3 teams making to the end. The race did have to finish a bit earlier than planned, however because of severe winds and a sand storm.
The teams arrived back home on Wednesday about 6am. The bus broke down in Adelaide which made them 10 hours late getting back....but they made it safe and sound. Results from the race will come soon!
